You can finally catch up to Speed Racer on DVD. Since the movie (ahem) underperformed last spring/summer, I'll bet a lot of you didn't see it during its theatrical run. I watched it Friday with some friends and we all absolutely loved it. I thought it was solid genius wrapped in sorcery. The script is note perfect and the look and energy of the whole production is insane! It's just amazing.
Go out and rent it and I think you'll agree. I'm a big fan of Speed from way back, but even if you're not familiar with the family Racer the film does a great job of explaining everything for newbies. It's quite sophisticated in its storytelling, which is probably the reason the sugar addled kids and their folks stayed away. There is a little smackin' around-style violence, and a wee bit of gentle profanity, but other than that there is nothing in here I wouldn't show to an embryo.
